Khun Kay Thai Cafe

More than two and a half decades ago, Supatra Yooto and Kay Soodjai opened the Golden Room at 1209 Montrose. The restaurant went on to become one of the first and most online trading celebrated Thai restaurants in the city.

Generations mourned its closing late last year, only to rejoice as Supatra and Kay raised a new building in its place and opened a charming, fast-casual version of the original - Khun Kay Thai Cafe.

Khun Kay (Khun means Madame) boasts most of the Golden Room�s menu and the same superb quality, but with reduced prices. In the style of the popular fast-casual concept, diners now order from an extensive menu at the counter and then sit at tables in a bright new dining room where their order is brought to them.

While both Supatra and Kay were born and raised in Thailand, most of the dishes at Khun Kay are more authentic Kay than just authentic Thai - a fact that has delighted the most experienced Thai diners. Just as chefs in all countries do, Kay has taken traditional Thai foods and added personal touches as she once did in her family�s restaurant in Thailand.

Khun Kay Thai Cafe is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner.

Hours are 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 9:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
